August 20th-24th

Hello Parents!

This week we all enjoyed diving into the curriculum with your students. A few highlights were learning the seven continents and reading Boxcar Children aloud.

Below is a look at this week:

Spalding: Students will be sent home with their homework packet on Monday night and then asked to spell their words three times each night. We will have a spelling test and a phonogram quiz next Friday. Make sure you are reviewing phonograms 1-70 with your students at home.

Math: We will be counting by 100s, 10s and 1.  We will have a quiz on Monday. Continue to do Xtramath 5 times a week at home.

History: We will begin our first science unit on the four seasons. Students will find their homework journals prompts in their GREEN journals this week. We will have a quiz on Friday to review the material.

Reading: Please read with your students for 20 minutes each night. You may let them read any book at home. As we continue developing their reading skills in the classroom it is so helpful to have this reinforced at home. If you are looking for good books to read at home, please email one of us and we can give you a list!

This past week, due to the half day students did not come home with much graded work. Look for the yellow folder this Friday and please review the tests with your students. Send these folders back the following Monday.

Finally, we would love to see you all at curriculum night on Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm. This will be a time for you to learn more about what your students hear every day at school. Especially if you are new to Great Hearts, please consider coming to this helpful event.

We look forward to a great week!

Ms. Allen, Mrs. Pim, Ms. Castle and Mrs. Cox.
