December 10th-14th

Hello Parents!

We hope you all had a lovely weekend. It was such a joy to watch your students in their concert last week, they did a wonderful job! This week we have our Ancient Greece themed quarter party on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to those of you who signed up to bring supplies or to volunteer your time. We think this will be a great event.

Spalding: Spalding homework will come home on Monday and should be completed every night using proper markings and with correct letter formation.  There will be a test on Friday covering the 30 words students will learn this week. Make sure you continue reviewing phonograms 1-70 with your students at home.

Math: This week we will be taking our middle of the year Singapore test over the course of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will spend time reviewing all concepts on Monday and doing some math enrichment on Friday.  Make sure your students continue to do xtramath 5 days a week as they work towards their goal of mastering addition facts.

History: We are continuing to study Ancient Greece and will be reading many stories during our history block. Please review with your scholar using their blue journal to help prepare for the upcoming assessment.

Reading:  We are continuing to read through the Odyssey. Make sure to ask your students about the heroic acts of Odysseus and Penelope this week. Please continue to devote approximately 20 minutes to reading with your scholar for homework.

Poetry: Remember that students only have one more week to memorize their poem“The Arrow and the Song” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Recitations begin on December 17th.

The Arrow and the Song

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.
As this quarter wraps up we are all so grateful for the time we’ve been able to spend with your students. We count it a privilege to be able to teach them everyday. As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm Regards,

– Ms. Allen, Mrs. Pim, Ms. Castle and Mrs. Cox
