Hello Parents!

We hope you had a restful weekend! Take a look below for what lies ahead this week.

Spalding: We will have 20 words this week with a Spelling and Phonogram Test on Thursday. Please ensure that your scholar is using their best handwriting and are careful to use correct Spalding letter formation. Practicing their correct letter formation in manuscript now will help them to more easily move into cursive which we will begin in February!

Math: We will begin our unit on mental math this week. Please ensure that your scholar is completing their XtraMath homework 5 times this week!

History: We will begin our unit on Westward Expansion! Some of the topics we will cover this week will be Lewis and Clark, the Mississippi River, the Erie Canal and travel west in covered wagons.

Reading: This week we will be begin reading Little House in the Big Woods written by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Poetry: Your student is working on memorizing, Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost. Recitations will take place the week of February 11th.

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Have a Wonderful Week!

Ms. Allen, Mrs. Pim, Ms. Castle and Mrs. Cox
