March 4th-8th

Hello Parents!

We are here at the end of the third quarter, this year is flying by! To celebrate, we will be having a Westward Expansion themed quarter party on Thursday, March 7th from 1-2pm. Although we already have all the volunteers needed, if you are interested in coming just to particpate in the celebration, you are welcome to join us.

Take a look at this week.

Spalding: Students will continue to write their spalding words in cursive. This week students will learn 16 words (8 each day) and then be tested on Thursday.

Math: This week students will continue to learn about money and about how to add dollars and cents. They will also have a quiz on Thursday.

History/Science: We will wrap up our life cycles unit this week with learning about the life cycle of plants. Students will be taking home a bean seedling with them at the end of this week. If you plant it, you can watch it grow over spring break!  Students will also be asked to complete a keyword outline and summary this week and then finish with a quiz on Thursday.

Reading: We will continue The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. So far, students have loved this story and we look forward to reading more of it this week.

Poetry: Our next poem is “Windy Nights ” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Students will be taking home a hard copy of this poem this week. However, recitations will not be held until after spring break.

Windy Nights

Robert Louis Stevenson

Whenever the moon and stars are set,
Whenever the wind is high,
All night long in the dark and wet,
A man goes riding by.
Late in the night when the fires are out,
Why does he gallop and gallop about?
Whenever the trees are crying aloud,
And ships are tossed at sea,
By, on the highway, low and loud,
By at the gallop goes he.
By at the gallop he goes, and then
By he comes back at the gallop again.
