October 15th-19th

Hello Parents!

We hope you have all enjoyed a restful and memorable fall break. Remember this week starts out will Fall conferences. Make sure you have signed up to meet with your student’s teacher to discuss their academics.  Monday and Tuesday are entirely dedicated to conferences, after this there will be half days for the remainder of the week.

Spalding: Spalding homework will come home on Wednesday and should be completed every night using proper markings and with correct letter formation.  There will be a test on Friday covering the 10 words students will learn this week. Make sure you continue reviewing phonograms 1-70 with your students at home.

Math: We will begin this next quarter with a unit on measurement. Remember to continue to build your students math fact fluency by completing xtramath 5 days a week.

Science: We will spend the next two weeks covering simple machines. Please look in your students agenda and their GREEN JOURNALS to find their homework assignments.

Reading:  A central theme of this second quarter will be studying Ancient Greece. As we prepare for this, we will be reading Ancient Greek Myths in class this week. We will then follow that by reading the children’s version of the Iliad. This will be read as read-aloud in class and students are not expected to have their own copy of this book.

Have a wonderful week!

Ms. Allen, Mrs. Pim, Ms. Castle and Mrs. Cox

September 24th – 28th

Hello Parents,

This quarter has gone by so quickly and we only have two more weeks until the end of the first quarter!  Friday, September 28th is a half day. School ends at 12PM and we will not have lunch. Please send a snack for your child on Friday to have during recess.

Spalding: Spalding homework will come home on Monday and should be completed every night using proper markings and with correct letter formation. Not only are students graded on completion of their Spalding homework each night, but they are also graded on markings,  letter formation and neatness.  Please help them to ensure they are marking their words correctly, while also using proper letter formation. Make sure you continue reviewing phonograms 1-70 with your students at home.

Math: This week we will begin renaming tens and hundreds while subtracting. Your student is expected to complete XtraMath 5 times this week.  XtraMath is developing math fact automaticity in your child.  This skill is necessary for students to be able to solve simple and challenging math problems and helps to build their confidence in their own ability!

History: We will continue studying the geography of North and South America this week and will have a Quiz on Thursday.  Make sure that your student is writing COMPLETE sentences in their journal to get full credit for homework.

Reading: Last week we finished reading The Hundred Dresses and had a seminar on the question, “Was Maddie a friend?” This week in our literature class we will be reading fairytales. Please continue to read with your students for 20 minutes each night.

Poetry:  Each student will be reciting the Poem individually this week.  Please help your child to prepare for recitation of Bed in Summer.

Bed in Summer
By: Robert Louis Stevenson

In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

Please sign and return yellow folders on Monday.  You may keep all completed work at home.

Have a wonderful week!
